The so-called age witnessed major transformations in culture, politics and technology changing the face of modern America. The era extending from 1870 to 1900 saw economic growth in the Northern and Western United States.
The early times of the Gilded Age also coincided with the mid-Victorian era in Britain and France. Fashion reflected this extensively changing time of society and its norms.
