Defining statements of the summer season

A distinct lingo of dopamine colours, breezy silhouettes, and ultra-chic patterns are a constant in summer dressing vocabulary. However, designers never fail to offer a refreshing spin on it every year. From comfort-driven clothing over the last couple of years to go-getter attitude in dressing, there is a slew of neon colours brightening up the trend charts, proportionate embellishments and anti-fit silhouettes are a master of multifunctional flair this season. Here’s why we are trusting these all-rounders to get a year-round mileage from the purchases.

Lime Green

The neon shade of green is here to polarise other bold hues, perfect to give a blissful radiance to sunkissed skin. The 90s nostalgia evoking colour sets the perfect tone for celebratory occasions and a joyful mood. Trumpet Vine offers a visual dose of Vitamin C rendering the colour on a statement top. Consider wearing it to a brunch get-together. Yashodhara designs a subtly embroidered kurta set in response to low-key ways of conducting festivities.

Minimalistic Sequins

Considering it is a season of dopamine dressing we cannot possibly rule out sequins.  Albeit sequin needn’t give 1000 watt shine at all times. Beyond evening looks, designers are offering muted glittery looks making an equally stop-and-stare worthy statement. RSVPd to an alfresco summer wedding? Place your bets on this whimsical white sequined sari by Oru. The light sequin speckled on sheer panelled peplum and sharara by Mishru has a delicacy that will win second glances with minimum efforts.

Mini Dresses

The Instagram feed of celebrities has been vibing over mini dresses. Verb by Pallavi Singhee contributed to the nonchalant trend with a multicoloured flouncy number while Zosia made it all about glamour with the waist ring and cut-outs. You can also opt to join the Y2K bandwagon choosing bold cut-outs, bandage silhouettes and abstract prints.

Anti Fit

After falling into the pyjama trap in the past year, the desire to rediscover a fuss-free lightness in our clothing is a given. Besides mini dresses, celebrities have also solidified their love for anti-fit clothing in a lot of their off-duty avatars. Proving anti-fit silhouettes are more than just oversized tailoring, Urvashi Kaur crafted a texture-accented shirt in a sheer fabric.  The masterfully draped anti-fit dress by Priyanka Singh boasts artisanal elements to polish up the unstructured silhouette.

Plissé Pleated Fabric

The plissé pleated fabric has made a case in a plethora of internationally showcased runway collections. The texture of micro pleated fabric is revered for its wrinkle-free attribute. Kiran Uttam Ghosh uses the fabric to give an impressive effect to the floral prints on her one-shoulder tunic. Scarlet Sage, on the other hand, offers a line of micro-pleated co-ordinates that don’t fail to make a comfy-chic statement.

Disha Parwarkar

“There’s no such thing as an ordinary blue sweater.” Years later, it still feels like Miranda Priestly understood fashion’s obsession with blue long before the rest of us did.
