Indian badminton icon PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist and one of India’s most illustrious athletes, recently exchanged vows with Venkata Datta Sai, Executive Director at Posidex Technologies, in a wedding that can only be described as a modern-day fairytale. Hosted at the resplendent Raffles Udaipur, this three-day celebration from December 20 to 22, 2024, was a breathtaking tandem of tradition, love, and contemporary sophistication. The couple’s romance, which blossomed after a chance encounter on a flight in 2022, culminated in a ceremony mirroring their beautiful journey.
The idyllic Raffles Udaipur, an opulent 21-acre private island resort nestled amidst the serene Udai Sagar Lake, set the stage for this grand celebration. Renowned for its stately Indo-Saracenic architecture, lush manicured gardens, and tranquil water vistas, the venue offered an aura of understated luxury that perfectly complemented the occasion.
Each event was a sensory masterpiece, with meticulously curated decor themes crafted by the design maestros at RVR Eventz & Design. Pastel blooms, cascading floral installations, and intricate drapery dominated the mehendi, evoking the Regency-era elegance of Bridgerton, while the sangeet’s Mughal-inspired design featured gilded arches and crystal chandeliers.
The wedding mandap, designed in hues of gold and ivory, embodied sacred elegance, blending traditional motifs with modern minimalism. Throughout the celebrations, the seamless integration of personalised elements – from symbolic flowers to custom monograms – added an intimate touch.
For her haldi ceremony, breaking away from conventional yellows, PV Sindhu radiated in a bespoke three-piece ensemble by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and statement jewellery by Vaidaan. The look was a refreshing take on tradition with a new edge.
For her quintessential Telugu pre-wedding ritual, Pellikuthuru, Sindhu chose a striking red Banarasi silk saree from her family heirloom collection. The saree’s rich texture and intricate detailing highlighted the timeless beauty of Indian craftsmanship.
Sindhu’s Bridgerton-inspired mehendi was a visual delight. She donned a lilac sharara by Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika, paired with bold Outhouse jewellery. The ensemble’s playful elegance perfectly complemented the pastel decor, making her look both regal and relaxed.
The Mughal-e-Azam-themed sangeet was a night of glamour and grandeur. Sindhu dazzled in an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla self-on-self embroidered emerald gown adorned with bugle beads and crystals paired with a complementing cape. Matching her in both style and charm, her fiancé (now husband) Venkata Datta Sai opted for a refined yet bold look from Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla MAN for the sangeet. His vintage-inspired ensemble featured geometric patterns infused with classic Salli embroidery.
For the varmala and ring exchange, Sindhu turned to the timeless elegance of Sabyasachi. Her handcrafted Mysore silk lehenga, adorned with delicate gold and zari embellishments, was paired with an intricately embroidered dupatta and a Kanthi blouse. The look was a masterpiece of elegance and tradition. Venkata, not to be outdone, opted for an ivory sherwani from Sabyasachi’s groom collection, radiating understated sophistication.
The highlight of the celebrations was Sindhu’s wedding look, and rightly so. She was resplendent in a handcrafted tissue saree by Manish Malhotra’s EVARA collection. Intricate badla and zardozi embroidery adorned the luminous ivory-toned ensemble, paired with a personalised veil inscribed with the couple’s names.
Her multi-tiered heirloom necklace from Manish Malhotra’s wedding jewellery collection, featuring Zambian emeralds and uncut diamonds, added a touch of timelessness. Venkata complemented her magnificently in an ivory brocade sherwani.
For the grand reception, Sindhu chose a stunning ivory tulle lehenga by Falguni Shane Peacock. Embellished with Swarovski crystals and sequins, the outfit exuded sophistication. The shimmering lehenga was fitting for a night celebrating the couple’s new beginning.
PV Sindhu and Venkata Datta Sai’s wedding celebrated love and culture, where every detail – from the venue to the attire and decor – came together to tell their unique story.
