FL: What is your personal notion of beauty?

MT: For me, beauty is the strength that one possesses, the kindness that one possesses, and the self-confidence that one possesses with or without makeup.

FL: There’s a lot of conversation about skincare regimes these days, do you also follow any particular regime?

MT: Everyone should follow a regime as per their own choice. I personally follow a regimen which is more of a blend of advanced and traditional skincare ways. When there’s no shoot, I prefer oiling my scalp. Fruits serve as excellent natural face packs. I even rub tomatoes on my skin as they are great agents of exfoliation, while coffee grounds with sugar mixed into it works great as a scrub and honey moisturises your skin. Given our increasing screen time it is all the more important to apply sunblocks irrespective of whether you are staying in or you are stepping out.

FL: What are your favourite style hacks from contemporary fashion trends?

MT: I have a lot of oversized coats and blazers, which can be worn either on a dress, a crop top, denims, a skirt or a maxi. In contemporary fashion, colour-blocking is a go-to trend.

FL: Which styles inspire you from Indian cinema?

MT: There are so many characters … for instance, when the character Geet was introduced in Jab We Met a lot of girls started pairing kurtas with denims; similarly, Alizeh’s character in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil inspired a lot of girls to wear a nose pin, silver jewellery, kajal, and to pair denims with kurtas, jackets and boots. With Sita Ramam I was swept off my feet by the vintage style since I have always respected the vintage vibe.

FL: Do you think one should dress to impress?

MT: Yes, one should dress to impress but themselves and not others. Do not be hard on yourself, rather just crack the code of what suits your body type the best. For example, I have a pear-shaped body and I have started dressing accordingly. I don’t blindly follow any trend. Everyone has a distinct personality and only when one owns their personality, will it shine through.

FL: What is your idea of fitness?

MT: My idea of fitness is to ensure that you just do not hit the gym because going to the gym can get boring. So, please inculcate a lot of activities and develop diverse skills. In my case, I do a lot of kickboxing, animal movement, and dancing. In addition to workouts, sleeping patterns are also important.

FL: Do you have any ideal workout routine?

MT: My ideal workout routine is at least five times a week, which comprises doing cardio at least thrice a week, swimming twice a week, and doing lots and lots of strength exercises.

FL: What do you think is the role of diet and nutrition for a healthy body?

MT: I think, yes, eighty percent work happens in your kitchen- what you cook, what you eat. There are a lot of people who only go on a diet when they are working out but I would say that even if you are not working out, you need to maintain your diet. Have one cheat day and make sure that you don’t go overboard in your eating window.

FL: How do you think notions of body positivity can help today’s generation to accept their body types?

MT: There are a lot of standards that are set among today’s generation, in terms of how they need to look a certain way, but what is more important is that one should be comfortable in whatever shape and size they appear to be. Obviously, I would request everyone to be healthy and exercise everyday.

FL: What’s next on the work front?

MT: Gumraah was a success, now looking forward to Pippa soon. Lust Stories is also coming up, and I am shooting for the Telugu film Nani 30.

FL: Finally, how does Mrunal Thakur chill and what does she vibe to?

MT: I don’t think the word ‘chill’ exists in my life at this point of time. However, whenever I do get to chill, I end up locking myself up in a room and watching something as an audience and not as a performer. I vibe to AP Dhillon songs and to Beyonce’s music, so yes, that’s pretty much me.

Disha Parwarkar

May 26, 2026

“There’s no such thing as an ordinary blue sweater.” Years later, it still feels like Miranda Priestly understood fashion’s obsession with blue long before the rest of us did. I remember watching The Devil Wears Prada for the first time and barely noticing Andy’s sweater. To me, it was just blue. Nothing revolutionary or memorable. Read More
