Back from the Indie Cool Age- Tie & Dye Patterns

Moving over those camp day tees from the ’90s, tie & dye is back in 2019 as a major trend. Reprising the hippies’ favourite to create chic versions for a modern update, tie & dye pattern got a modern update on the NYFW SS19 runway and it instantly enticed the onlookers, even the naysayers. Furthermore, the year’s most covetable pattern includes a laborious execution. The designs are developed by tying, folding, ruching and clamping fabrics using waxed threads and coloured dyes to come up with unique patterns. Each such creation is bound to feature distinctive patterns as the final outcome of no two pieces are exactly the same.

The pattern evolved with a luxurious update on the Indian ramp. Deme by Gabriella designed her breezy summer silhouettes rendering tie & dye in a melange of colours for a kaleidoscopic effect. The revival of this craft is also a result of fueling the sustainability factor here. In essence, renowned slow fashion brand Ka Sha made tie & dye cool again rendering their designs with geometric patterns. Papa Don’t Preach on the other hand showcases its couture excellence clubbing leheriya with clustered embellishments that are bound to strike you with its fancy.

From high spirited shades of red, yellow and blue to acidic greys and warm neutrals, envision the pattern with every colour in the spectrum. Adorn the trend with your casual separates and summer layers and trust us when we say, they’re no longer just limited to ornating your holiday tees. Leheriya, bandhani or ombre lehengas and sarees are timeless pieces in the festive closet while sundresses and tops make for a must-have in your holiday backpack; the illusional trance colour effect has bohemian written all over! With stellar new ways to make summer and pre-fall wow we eagerly anticipate to see how our sweats and trenches are patterned with intriguing tie & techniques in the coming season.
