‘A La Mode’ by Chhavvi Aggarwal

In harmony with the season’s spirit and the freshness of summer blooms, designer Chhavvi Aggarwal presented her Spring/Summer ’19 collection at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio in Bandra on the 15th of March. Named ‘A La Mode’, the collection displayed an eclectic mix of indo-western silhouettes like concept sarees, draped dresses, fusion silhouettes with light layers and new-age lehenga styles in floral print embellished with dainty details. The creations are rendered with a fresh vibe of summery flowers and contemporary cuts for a timeless yet timely appeal. This collection was inspired by the sheer versatility of a modern woman’s life. Encapsulating the same, the collection ranges from some casual pieces to semi-formal and formal wedding wear, therefore catering to every celebratory occasion.

The special launch was graced by bloggers Shrima Rai, Prerna Mehra and actress Puja Gupta who adorned the designer’s creations. Chhavvi Aggarwal chatted with us sharing her success story and insights into her latest collection and future plans.

What defined your first step into the world of fashion?

I started out after my design graduation your NIFT, Delhi. Soon after my studies, I decided to launch my own label. I was a part of a collaboration with NDTV to design a collection for Independence Day. So that was like my launchpad into the industry as a designer. After that, I opened my own studio. Although, now I think, to have prior experience with a design house would have helped me better and that’s something I would recommend to young designers but at that time I had a lot of enthusiasm to translate my ideas into form. Anyways, thankfully everything panned out well and the label is thirteen years old now and it’s been great so far!

What uniqueness do you think carves a niche for your label in the industry?

We cater to a wide NRI clientele. Our signature style is Indo-western wherein we bring together a unique fusion of contemporary design with ingenious Indian embroideries. So, that makes it very wearable and appealing to the modern working women of today who like to keep it effortless.

What is the inspiration behind your SS’19 collection?

Our Spring/Summer’19 collection is called ‘A La Mode’. The collection is inspired by the modern working woman and to dress her from morning to evening with a versatile style statement. So, the collection includes a lot of separates like crop tops, indo-western dhoti pants and some light lehengas which can be styled as any occasion wear.

Any tips for accessorizing or styling this collection?

So, I don’t believe in too much accessorizing because these outfits are statement-making on its own. There is a lot of focus on style and drapes so just a pair of earrings and a maangtika can be paired to make it more appealing.

According to your experience, which factor plays a key role in assuring success in this industry?

I feel consistency is the key. A lot of times inconsistency breaks the progress. It is important to be uniform in terms of delivering good designs and collections season by season and that would lead to success eventually.

Would you like to share anything about your upcoming collection?

My next collection would be Winter/Festive ’19. So, the styles are a little heavier from the summer collection. We are using a lot of silk and organza. We always have benarasi georgette which is as the signature style of our collections
