Designer Focus: Anamika Khanna’s SS 19′ collection launch

Best known for her eponymous label, Anamika Khanna is one of the most admired and respected designers in the Indian fashion industry. Seen as highbrow and sartorial in equal measure, Anamika began her label with the intention of innovating Indian style with a sophisticated edge for the modern woman.

“Anamika Khanna Label is all about finding your own personal style and having the dream and vision to express them to the world around you.” -Anamika Khanna

On the 15th of May, after struggling with her health, she released her Spring/Summer 19′ collection: Everything is AK-OK. The ready-to-wear collection is all about drama and free-spirit and translates a clear message with the slogan print. Extremely special and personal to Anamika, the collection is inspired by what she describes as underground warriors, women who like her, battle immense challenges but are able to pull through and make the world a more caring, interesting, and beautiful place: living goddesses who are anything but just domestic and refuse to stand still on a pedestal.

While Anamika’s twin sons were studying at USC in Los Angeles, they had to communicate across vast distances, often about heavy topics such as Anamika’s health. Harnessing the transmission power of the term A-OK and adding a personal twist of Anamika’s initials- A-OK became AK-OK – a secret code that would travel back and forth between them over 13,000km and four years.  Picking up the term Anamika translated it into eccentric prints and ingenious stitches, prints, borders, linings of the silhouettes and thus the deeply personal, unfiltered collection will always remain close to her heart.

Bringing together futuristic aesthetics of both worlds- Indian and International, the silhouettes are an eclectic mix of avant-garde cocktail wear and contemporary styles. The dramatic silhouettes instate that women of today’s age are free from Norms and limitations, ready to fly and take over the world. The whimsical collection includes lehengas, fusion draped skirts, sporty crop tops, wispy capes and much more, designed with the lively slogan print and detailed embroidery. The universal silhouettes blend into every occasion effortlessly with an offbeat character and are sure to keep everyone in awe.

With this collection titled ‘Everything is AK-OK’, Anamika has in a way reimagined her label with a fresh vibe and a celebratory spirit.

The collection is now available on Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop’s website and in-store.
