Anamika Khanna Sets the Tone for Hyundai India Couture Week 2026

India Couture Week, fashion’s most anticipated week on the calendar, is back, and this season began with a fitting spectacle. Anamika Khanna opened the Hyundai India Couture Week 2026, in association with Nexxus New York, an FDCI Initiative with Moonlit Palace, her latest couture collection, unveiled against the regal backdrop of Hyderabad’s Taj Falaknuma Palace.

Bathed in soft silver light, the palace transformed into an atmospheric stage that felt suspended between memory and imagination. The runway echoed the quiet grandeur of a moonlit palace, setting the tone for a collection built on contrasts where heritage met modernity and craftsmanship became the evening’s central narrative.

The opening movement unfolded with an effortless sense of grace, introducing the collection’s themes of ritual, memory, and inheritance. Rather than serving as embellishment, jewellery was woven into the garments themselves, becoming an intrinsic part of each silhouette’s construction.

The second movement marked a distinct shift in both mood and palette as Anamika Khanna returned to the landscapes of her childhood. Inspired by Barmer, the Rajasthan town closer to her birthplace, the collection became an ode to the region’s rich textile traditions. Saturated hues, intricate mirrorwork, and flashes of gold foil illuminated the runway, while the richly crafted surfaces brought a renewed vibrancy to age-old techniques, reimagined through a contemporary couture lens.

The third movement, Kalighat, drew from the artistic spirit of Kolkata’s riverside communities. Here, the collection settled into a quieter, more contemplative rhythm as silhouettes became softer and more fluid, with refined proportions reflecting a sense of grace and ease. The pace of the presentation slowed, inviting the audience to linger on the intricate craftsmanship, delicate detailing, and the quiet elegance with which each garment moved across the runway.

The show closed by bringing its many threads together, weaving traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design into a final sequence that echoed the opening and gave the presentation a satisfying sense of completion.

With Moonlit Palace, Anamika Khanna imagined a lost civilisation not as something left behind, but as one continually rediscovered through craft, adornment, and storytelling. At its heart, the collection was a tribute to the women whose skill, intuition, and artistry have preserved these cultural narratives, allowing tradition to remain alive through constant evolution rather than nostalgia.
