Shadows, Silk, and Legacy: Rohit Bal’s Dastkar at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026

Inside the grand ballroom of New Delhi’s Taj Palace, the air shifted the moment the music hit the runway. Presented as an FDCI initiative in association with Nexxus New York, the highly anticipated return of Rohit Bal at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 ushered in a compelling new chapter – with Creative Director Fraze Tasnim and the design team honourably carrying Bal’s legacy forward through rich textures, architectural silhouettes, and signature motif embroideries.

Titled Dastkar – a heartfelt tribute to the master artisans and karigars whose hands have woven the brand’s legacy for over three decades – the showcase moved through mood, emotion, and sheer visual power. Rather than following a rigid sequence, three distinct themes seamlessly unfolded across the runway: artistic dark velvets; romantic floral silks; and regal gold zardozi. Elevating the sequence, seasoned runway icons like Lakshmi Rana, Avanti Nagrath, and Indrani Dasgupta graced the lineup, bringing effortless poise to the house’s creative vision. Menswear took a commanding lead throughout the showcase, celebrating heritage grandeur with structured Bandhgalas, floor-length velvet capes, and razor-sharp jackets featuring intricate placement embroideries and dramatic, regal shoulders.

As the dark silhouettes exited the runway, a calming shift filled the room softening the show’s intense, dramatic edge into pure romance. The collection transitioned into a dreamy space where Rohit’s iconic florals slowly came to life across every silhouette. Gossamer tissue fabrics, soft chanderi, and ivory silks replaced the heavy dark textures, becoming canvases for hand-embroidered lotuses, cascading rose vines, and sweeping peacock feathers. Delicate zari and threadwork brought living, three-dimensional texture to the next wave of fluid lehengas.

The runway saved its most stunning display for the finale. The closing looks featured intricate gold embroidery, majestic skirts, and sharp menswear, showcasing Rohit’s unmatched talent for regal silhouettes and elaborate craftsmanship.

By structuring Dastkar through these three distinct moods at Indian Couture Week 2026, Rohit Bal proved that great design never goes out of style. The showcase walked the audience through a journey of art, romance, and heritage while honoring the skilled hands that brought it to life. It served as a powerful reminder that true fashion isn’t just surface beauty, it’s about the heart of the craft.
