Trend Report: Supersized Tailoring

Supersized tailoring = superlative glam quotient! Fashion has come a long way from padded shoulders, clean lines and flowy drapes. Lately, relaxed fits and oversized trimmings are serving a statement on the fashion radar. Yes, beyond your slouchy hoodies and baggy capris! Sartorially fierce, OTT silhouettes have replaced sultry bodycon gowns on the red carpet. Take your cue from Deepika Padukone’s big bow Dundas gown or Rihanna’s frequent sightings in oversized blazers. Exaggerated puffy sleeves, huge origami accents, anti-fit silhouettes have become a normcore. From high-street fashion to couture,  designers are proactively channelling their bold impulse on tailoring. If you take the dare to flex your edgier side, explore new ways as we decode these high on drama looks spotted on the runway.

One supersized accent can shine off as the hero element of any demure outfit. Adding dollops of drama to the Victorian vintage pussy bow to the next level, Pink Peacock Couture followed the red-carpet wave of this season. Couturier Amit GT on the other hand, displayed impeccable origami with ostentatious flowers on the bustier of his gowns. If you’re the belle of every evening affair, bid on big accents to reinstate your fashionista status. Bloni brought their street-style power play with a pair of detachable woollen sleeves that were teamed with a saree-bustier set. Think about strapping them on for a cocktail after-party to take the ante up by a notch!

If you like your every day to be filled with all-eyes-on-me moments, anti-fit silhouettes can never go unnoticed. Take a detour from form-fitted shirts and jackets, invest in relaxed fits. Golden rule: Clean tailoring is an important element of relaxed silhouettes too- say no to excess fabric that would look potato sack-like. But if you’re not a regular hypebeast, you can keep it low-key. Sayantan Sarkar made case for boxy silhouettes and Kanika Goyal’s oversized hoodie with kick-flare trousers made a boss-babe statement on the runway this season. From casual Fridays to boardroom stints, you can pull these off effortlessly without raising eyebrows.

While crisp tailoring can be occasion bound, you need no reasons to let yourself loose. Supersized accents or anti-fit silhouettes, take your pick!
