Festive Iridescence: In a conversation with Varsha Wadhwa

Summer festivities have officially begun and it’s time to usher into a refreshing delight with a wardrobe that encapsulates the new season. Varsha Wadhwa , an upcoming and promising designer of the new-age synchronizes her designs prominently with the essence of the season. Fascinated by all her travels around the world, her own demi-couture women’s wear line exudes her personality and love for all things vintage and timeless. Varsha Wadhwa doesn’t treat fashion one-dimensionally and creates a globally eclectic collection to suit the millennial generation.

Feminine cuts, contemporary silhouettes and rich ornate define the signature style of Varsha Wadhwa. The designer unveiled her Spring/Summer ’19 collection with a special preview hosted at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio store in Bandra on 13th April. At the curtain raiser of her destination wedding-ready SS19 collection, the designer sat to chat with us and share her design ideologies that represent her label.

Tell us something about your journey so far.

It all began from the time I was four years old actually. I used to love revamping regular Barbie clothes with whatever bits and bobs I found. Cut to, pursuing fashion in London and Milan. After graduation, I did a short stint with my dad’s linen business. Then in 2016, I launched my demi-couture label and here I am today! Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop has always been such an integral part of my career. I vividly remember doing something fun for promos each season and the response has been great.

What inspired you to design this collection?

I was inspired by beautiful Persian gardens. Persia, as we know, has been a land of gardens, poetry and mystic and even the word paradise comes from parādaiĵah which means revolve around an enclosed space. It’s about dusty blushes, therapeutic hues of sage intertwined with intricate gold threads rendered on flowing tulle and silk. My collection is reminiscent of poetry, the fragrance of flora and fauna, and of those sacred ideal afternoons in charming Persian gardens that are filled with a melodious romance this time of the season.

What is the signature style of Varsha Wadhwa label?

My collection always has hand embroidered french wire with lots of pearls, resham threads, beads jewelled on pastel hues. The silhouettes are easy and light.

How would you describe your bridal repertoire for summer?

Light and fresh, VW summer bridals have the beauty of intricate work but looks effortless and well-put; whether a destination wedding or a hometown one. The ensembles can be pulled off fuss-free and can go with your trousseau with much elan and versatility.

What do you think is trending this summer wedding season?

This summer I see a lot of intricate 3-dimensional floral embroideries juxtaposed with pastel silk threads, sequins and a neutral colour palette.

How would you advise to style your collection?

Wear fresh flowers in your tresses; like a delicate baby breath will look dreamy. I always think Victorian classic jewellery looks stunning eternally. It goes well with both pastel and deep jewel shades.

This season, add some couture drama to your demure style and rejoice your feminine soul with stellar ensembles curated by Varsha Wadhwa at Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop. Shop the designer exclusively online here .
