A Spotlight on Tassels

Widely known as Passmenteirs in France, Latkans in South-Asia to Tzitzit in Israel- 2022 saw a revival of this antiquated embellishment in fashion. Tassels, loosely hanging threads knotted and decorated with different elements, trace their history to biblical times and the Vedic period.

Initially used in religious settings, tassels were only added in prayer beads for Jaap Malas. Historically speaking, the presence of tassels has always been in an ambiance of divinity. Consider the humanoid carvings of 16th-century temples; these transcendental monuments have tassels dangling from the garbs of each muse depicting its significance.

Due to the lack of machinery in the old days, tassels had to be hand-crafted from exquisite fabrics such as silk and woven with choice ornaments of gold or silver. As a result, it became an expensive and labor-intensive operation. Thus, only the nobles and elites had exclusive rights to this adornment due to its strenuous process. It is no surprise that they became emblematic of wealth and comfort.

Additionally, its ties to aristocracy conferred the embellishment an added association with prestige and honor. Thus, the military presented these adornments to their higher-ranking officials.

It’s not all symbolic, though.

Tassels also emphasize the physical appearance by providing a visual treat and personality to the attire. The loose and floating movement of these danglers accentuates the aura of the person sporting them. The replication of grace and mesmerizing movements adds an air of regality, making tassels an ornament genuinely fit for a queen.

But when tassels are mentioned, one’s mind automatically switches to festive wear. To liberate you from this fixed mindset, we have put together a tassel-centric collection for every mood of the week!

A Casual Treat: Torani

Guess it shouldn’t be unanticipated that the traditional essence of tassels finds a modern expression through Torani. The House of Torani often draws its inspiration from Indian history, mythology, and fables.

These chic bohemian scarves by Torani are an accessory that every feminine wardrobe should comprise. Symbolically used to ward off evil, tribes of India would add elements such as coins, charms, and shells to the basic tassel design similar to this scarf style. This idea of evil-eye seems way more enthralling and à la mode than the kaala teeka

These hues are simpatico to the summer mood. Additionally, the pom-pom tassel style interwoven with shells is the perfect match for your quirky personality. Paired with a simple solid-colored tee and jeans, these scarves are all you need to transition from a ringarde to a head-turner.

A great last-minute addition to upgrade a simple outfit, these scarves have got your back when you have a college fest to attend or a quick coffee date with the girls.

Sparkles and Poise: Sanya Gulati

Fringes, an offshoot of the tassel, are a modern solution to the traditional viewpoint. Tassels have gained a mark of longevity due to their skill to adapt and incorporate the current need for simplicity.

Donned in these threads that twinkle, you’ll be all set to channel your chic self. If you tend to go gaga over ‘The Great Gatsby’ as well as the decade’s aesthetic, and you have always envisioned yourself in dazzling romantic silhouettes, then these looks are just for you!

Known for its sensual and contemporary styles, Sanya Gulati’s namesake label embodies this trend by ticking all the right boxes. The easy yet statement-making designs with flowy details capture the essence of the modern woman.

Look resplendent as you step out for drinks with colleagues or attend a business party and dazzle them with your charm!

A Conventional Twist: Prevasu

The Indian festivities are a potpourri of heritage and traditions and a way to be in touch with our roots. These expressions find a space in the way we dress and present ourselves. Due to the rich cultural history, tassels play an integral role.

Be it a lehenga or a saree, tassel finds its way in every festive dressing. Prevasu’s lehengas are crafted to radiate our regal ancestry by experimenting with tassels and opting for bold color and heavy embroidery.

Eye-catchy tassels at the waist and the back amplify each movement while you grace everyone with your swift dance moves. This opulent attire is perfect for making an effortless statement.

Don’t let the lack of occasion stop you from experimenting with these timeless embellishments. With a little bit of imagination, these danglers are a perfect adornment to add a finishing touch to your attire. By modifying tassels, you can express your mood and personality in everything you wear.
