The 2020 Wardrobe

Every year brings something new to the table. 2020 though, has been the most peculiar one for all of us. We didn’t just see a few of our habits changing, but observed an entire lifestyle switch altogether! Staying indoors pushed us to make some much-needed changes, ones that we plan to take forward in 2021 too.

Fashion, just like everything else, adapted itself to the unprecedented time. If you found yourself reaching for the most effortless pieces of clothing in your wardrobe, reports (and we) suggest, you weren’t alone. Comfort took centre stage, but that doesn’t mean that style took a backseat. Both of them found a way to work together, and this has extended well into the post-lockdown period. Before we turn the page, it’s only fair to take a look at the 2020 wardrobe!

Athleisure On The Rise

If you didn’t have a workout regime before 2020, chances are, you do now. Thanks (or no thanks) to long hours of being a couch potato and tons of discounts on online fitness classes, most of us finally pushed ourselves to get up and stretch! Of course, this called for a dedicated dress code – so we looked to athleisure to give us outfits we can wear for grocery runs, as well as for spot running in our living rooms. From joggers to yoga pants, hoodies to sweatshirts, all of it was top-notch!

Matching Face Masks

What was only considered an essential at the beginning of the pandemic soon became an accessory too. Face masks are now a part of our closet and seem less alien at this point. The creative lot turned this virus-saving piece into a statement-making stunner! Lockdown brides preferred to wear masks that were totally in sync with their outfits, and the same route was seen being taken during festivities. Intricate embroidery, quirky prints, and eye-pleasing hues are just a few of the details that have been our personal favourites.

Lively Lounge Wear

Among everything else that has been redefined this year, loungewear too saw a transition! It was no longer limited to pyjamas or anti-fit tees, but went way beyond that. Dressing up and looking fresh & fine is something that doesn’t just bring us a couple hundred likes on Instagram, but also gives us some reassurance when the going gets tough! So, we relied on relaxed kurtas in eye-pleasing hues, dresses that let us breathe easy – and for the ones who wore pants, they were anything but body-hugging!

Toned-Down Wedding #OOTDs

2020 gave The Big Fat Indian Wedding a break. It was replaced by ceremonies that included only the closest family members attending physically, and the rest joining in through video calls in the earlier months. Now, even when there is a surge in the number of guests present at a wedding, couples are preferring to keep it low-key. One may have thought that the tradition of going all-out with your outfit would continue. But, we’re all proof of the fact that it really wasn’t the same! Here too, functionality and comfort played a huge role. We wished for nothing more than clothing that was fuss-free yet wedding-appropriate!

Cool Co-ords

Call us lazy if you’d like – but don’t co-ords make life SO much easier? You don’t have to mull things over and figure out how to style your outfit for the day, because they’re already styled and put together for you! Apart from the basic accessories that you can (or can’t) do without, there isn’t a lot of effort that goes into wearing these game-changers. They’ve been our best friends throughout the lockdown, and we don’t think we’re ready to part ways anytime soon! We’ve worn them for conference calls and flaunted them for virtual hangouts with the squad! All of it, while being subjected to tons of compliments!

It looks like we’re entering 2021 with a lot of lessons in life as well as style! Isn’t that the perfect way to end a year, anyway?
