Pantone Color Of The Year Edit

Every 365 days, if there’s one thing that brings the global creative industry together, it’s gotta be the Pantone Color Of The Year. While 2020 was all about the blues, this year, we’ve been graced with not one – but two polar opposite hues!

Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray have been the talk of the town since they were announced as the official colours of 2021, but not just because we’ve been given two choices this time. As always, there’s a reason for Pantone doing the unlikely, and exploring the two hues not as independent entities – but as a team.

The past year was not an easy one, but what made it survivable was the company of our closest people. The fact that brought us comfort time and again was that we were all in it – together. This is what Pantone has tried to convey with its colours; how different elements unite to signify strength and hope.

Since fashion is but a medium of expression, it’s time to let these colours into our wardrobes and lives, thus supporting the idea behind them. Here’s how you can sport them for various important occasions on your calendar! Take notes.

YELLOW

Yellow is one of the happiest and warmest colours on the spectrum, and we love it for the light it exudes both literally and figuratively. It’s also a colour that is perfect for pre-sunset hours, so don’t shy away from going all-out with it.

Brunch

Been nostalgic about Sunday brunches (re: drunches) with your gal pals all of 2020? The feeling is mutual. Now that you’re back to never missing a single reservation, it’s time to make up for all the outfits you didn’t get to wear or shop. Show up in the ‘it’ colour of the season and the year – yellow! Below are two outfits by Siddhartha Bansal and Nupur Kanoi to start you off on the right foot. Accessorise with a bright smile, and the best shoes you own.

Daytime Wedding

One look at any new-age bride will tell you that it isn’t just red that is being chosen for the wedding day! No colour on the spectrum is exempt, and Indian brides are picking the ones they love. It goes without saying that yellow is the ultimate hue for summer brides, especially this year. So, gear up to see your social media feeds flooded with various renditions of the colour, and if you’re also planning a summer wedding – it’s best to hop on the bandwagon!

Haldi or Sangeet Ceremony

What’s even more fun than the big day? All of the days leading up to it! Whether it’s you who is tying the knot or a close friend, dressing it down is not an option. Choose something bright and happy for haldi or sangeet functions. We’re rooting for yellow to get you through the celebrations in style, all while acing one of the most trendsetting hues of the year.

GRAY

The real party always starts after the sun goes down! Want to give the usual black a break from being your go-to colour for an evening full of lively chatter and groovy tunes? There’s nothing better than gray!

Cocktail Glam-Up

While we’re still on all things ‘wedding’ and ‘pre-wedding’, there’s one occasion which tops our most-awaited list! Cocktail parties are meant for you to have a gala time minus the rituals. With a glass of champagne, your stellar social skills, and a gray saree with a touch of bling, there’s no stopping you from making a lasting impression. Here are 2 drapes we love, from Rimzim Dadu & Siddartha Tytler respectively.

Date Night

Your S/O is already in awe of you, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t want to amplify that. No matter how much time has passed, date nights on the regular are mandatory. Sweep him off his feet (once again) in a dress that only aims to impress! Add a fashion-forward touch to your romantic evening with shades of gray. We’re eyeing this slit dress from Limerick by Abirr N’ Nanki and a dazzling piece from Deme by Gabriella.

Soiree

Who doesn’t love casual, laidback parties that allow one to dance away in pajamas? But, we all have to agree to the fact that nothing compares to the exhilaration of dressing up in formal attire and bringing out your best jewels every once in a while! Sunset soirees are as fancy as it gets. There’s still the free-flowing liquor and food, but this time, there’s a more fashionable and sophisticated YOU! Take this opportunity to sashay into the room in a gown that is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen.
