The Ikat ’19 collection by Label D

Earlier this month, Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop celebrated the launch of a new collection by Label D at the Bandra Store.

With just a splash of colour that the summer of 2019 years, Label D launched the Ikat ’19 collection that stands out on its own merit and the result is eye-catching hues of bold and pop colours draping the body. For the girl who loves her desi swag with a touch of contemporary, these summer styles are winners in your must-have list.

Including flowy silhouettes, intriguing patterns, and the use of shells and mirrors, the collection is absolutely enduring.  It’s no wonder that gorgeous textiles inspired designer Dimple Shroff, although her creations have embraced the ubiquitous style in a unique way. With the summer season underway, she has definitely captured a particular modern elegance through this collection.

We got a chance to speak to Dimple about all things design, her career in the fashion world and advice she would give every aspiring designer.

I got into fashion and designing when…

I always knew I wanted to do this. I was extremely passionate about clothes and design.  I studied fashion design at NIFT and then went to New York to study at FIT. That’s when I knew I had to start my own label. I came back to India and interned with Shantanu and Nikhil. That was an amazing experience, I learnt a lot from them. Soon after the internship, I began Label D. I was 19 at the time and it’s been a wonderful eleven years now!

The USP of Label D is…

Easy to wear and sexy silhouettes! Our design sense is very contemporary, so you see a lot of sarong lehengas and draped sarees that are just easy to wear, yet extremely chic.

My relationship with prints and colour…

Most of our previous collections have been with pastels and monochrome styles. This is the second time in eleven years we worked with prints. It’s definitely a change for a brand with the use of pop colours and Ikat, but it’s been fabulous. I’ve got a lot of appreciation and I’ve also enjoyed working with colour.

The best advice I could give new designers would be…

Don’t wait for success, just keep working hard! The fashion industry takes a lot from you. But it surely gives back in time. So put in all the hard work and always remain passionate.

My future plans…

The collaboration with Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop was a great stepping stone. I am very excited about that. Next, I am taking the Ikat collection to Dubai and New York. I don’t have the next collection planned yet, but I think I’m enjoying the use of colours and prints, so I’m probably going to be playing with that more.

If you are in Mumbai, make sure to stop by our Bandra store to check out the beautiful collection.
