FL: Your craft of sophisticated bridal and occasion-wear has set a mark on the Indian fashion industry. What was the driving factor behind this particular niche of clothing?

RM: Way back when I stepped into the shoes of a designer, there was a huge divide between affordability and luxury. My idea was to work around this divide and bridge the gap by introducing affordable luxury as a concept in the Indian market. It was with the honest and humble thought of bringing designer wear to aspiring customers with a taste for the finer things at a reasonable price point that feels satisfyingly worth it.

FL: Innovative silhouettes seem to be a constant in all your collections. Where does the creative inspiration stem from?

RM: Harnessing the power of innovative silhouettes lies at the very heart of our creative endeavour, and truth be told, it brings us immense delight! Particularly when the discerning audience wholeheartedly embraces our creations. The wellspring of our creative inspiration is purely ethereal, an intangible sensation that effortlessly materialises.

FL: You have showcased a vast number of collections in the past 10 years. Is there a particular kind of craftsmanship that has remained constant in your collections?

RM: The artistry that has endured through time and remains an integral part of our creative repertoire is innovation in Dori work. This intricate craft has gracefully transcended generations, capturing our unwavering fascination. It is a testament to our enduring commitment to the preservation and evolution of traditional techniques, seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary aesthetics.

FL: While you are a key womenswear label, do you plan on expanding into a possible menswear line?

RM: Yes, possibly sometime soon.

FL: How would you describe the creative aesthetics of your brand?

RM: Clean, elegant and effortless. An equal proportion of understated allure that’s also whimsically sublime.

FL: You do various kinds of collections of bridal wear, fusion wear and pret. Which stream of your brand do you enjoy designing for the most?

RM: My personal favourites will always be demi-couture and couture.

FL: Being a trendsetter yourself, is there any particular style that caught your attention which you might want to include in your collections?

RM: In the current year, our utmost focus is directed towards a plethora of Indo-Western silhouettes, exemplifying our commitment to fusion fashion. A refined approach is adopted to seamlessly blend the rich traditions of the East with the contemporary elements of the West. This deliberate endeavour symbolises our dedication to crafting sartorial masterpieces that resonate with the discerning clientele.

FL: What are the biggest challenges you face as a creative person with a high-demanded commercial brand?

RM: Each passing day presents us with an array of challenges, manifesting themselves in diverse forms. However, amidst this ever-evolving landscape, the greatest challenge lies in striking a harmonious equilibrium between the realms of business acumen and creative prowess. The delicate art of balancing these distinct yet interdependent skills serves as an ongoing test of our resilience and adaptability.
