Sherwani 2.0: For the millennial men

The millennial men’s style preference is anything but basic. And when it comes to choosing Indian wear for a traditional occasion, it cannot be straitjacketed. Sartorially enlightened, he has a vision for his festive and wedding wardrobe. From choosing the colour story for a themed-wedding to being the most stylish best-man on duty, millennial men are known for their distinct suave. When it comes to choosing a sherwani for a wedding affair, the Gen Z men are inclined towards styles that are nothing like their predecessors. Today, couturiers have elevated the sherwani ensemble with no colour too brave and no silhouette untouched. Stirring clear from the mock-king versions of sherwanis, the new season envisions everything from strikingly bold, sleek and understated variants.

Maestro of style, designer Kunal Rawal gambled with all black and navy blue sherwanis rendering them in tonal textures and deconstructed silhouettes for his Spring/Summer ’19 collection. Unconventional and optimistic, the styles make for a perfect pick for sangeet-cum-cocktail wedding soirees. Enigmatic millennials need not away from embracing all-black this season! Anita Dongre on the other side decks her signature sherwanis in artsy flora and fauna prints for her Spring/Summer 19 collection. The old-school relaxed versions are nipped to fit the form while the length is cropped to give you a note-worthy peek at the contrasting printed kurta underneath. Jewellyn Alvares celebrates the nonchalance of Gen Z choosing monochromatic patterns that anchor the svelte quotient. These styles easily blend with eclectic destinations of a wedding, whether a resort or palatial.

Artfully fueled, these sherwanis break the slew of done-to-death embroidered ensembles. Versatile enough to be pared down or dressed up, a millennial folk’s sherwani is proportionately old-school and freshness. A contrasting pocket square, slick oxford shoes and cufflinks are all you need to pull off a suave appearance. For the groom, a subtle piece of the brooch is an ideal pick to making the perfect match with his millennial bride!
