Notes On Dressing For The Daytime

It’s no secret that the real party begins when the sun goes down. But that doesn’t mean the daytime doesn’t come with its own set of fun moments and surprises! The lunches with your BFF, Sunday brunches with the squad, grocery slash coffee runs, and everything in between – all of them have a dedicated fanbase, and we’re a part of it too. For us, the daylight is mood-lifting, productivity-sparking, and on some days, the best time to unwind.

The dress code for pre-sunset hours differs largely from evening dressing. It isn’t as blingy, or as glamorous, but has more than one purpose to serve – keeping you comfy AND stylish even as the hours go by. Here, we decode it and delve deeper into day-dressing!

Soft Hues vs. Radiant Palettes

While our love for black is eternal, we think it’s best to let it rest till the evening hours. The day demands bursts of energy and a lot of times, comforting hues. As you tick off all the tasks and social commitments on your to-do list, you want to be wearing shades that either put you at ease or keep your spirits high.

Every colour has a purpose. Neutrals such as white, beige, etc. help you desaturate and blend in, while radiant & warmer hues such as yellow & orange are the get-up-and-go kind. Feel free to mix and match both, aiming to create a harmonious balance in your overall look.

Embellishments vs. Prints

There’s a reason why the all-over sequin dresses or co-ords are considered party winners; they don’t really have what it takes to fulfil the demands of the daytime. All we wish to do when the sun’s out is get through in a breeze, which seems impossible if we’re in an outfit weighed down by heavy embellishments.

But that doesn’t mean they’re off-limits. Just seek styles that have lighter embroidery or patchwork and joy-sparking motifs. Even sequins are alright, as long as they aren’t fully adorning the garment.

Florals are usually the best bet, but don’t let that limit you from exploring other avenues. If none of these work for you, just put your faith in prints. They’re much lighter, making breathing easy a possibility, and ever-stunning!

Oversized Styles vs. Enhancing Silhouettes

Some of us would be just as happy in jeans & a classic tee as we would be in a dress. But if it’s not just errands that you’re running, then picking the perfect silhouette is essential. Once you’ve zeroed in on the palette, it’s time to decide the details.

Oversized dresses that make you feel like they’re floating have been a favourite for most people lately, but the other side of the spectrum comprises fashionistas that find them not-so-flattering. This is where the halter necks and the sleeveless styles come into play, along with cinched or empire waists. From hugging your curves in the right places to highlighting your best features, these day-dressing wonders do it all while also bringing in ease.

Accessorising Effectively

Every time a fashion icon talks about how important accessories are, we find ourselves nodding in agreement. Their ability to take your outfit to a whole new level may sometimes be underestimated, but never goes unnoticed. Accessorizing for the daytime is a lot different than that for the night time.

Your high heels may be better off for the dressier moments, but kitten heels, block heels, wedges, or better yet, flats – may be more suited for the pre-sunset hours. Adding a lightweight scarf to your dresses, co-ords or even kurtas can prove to be a winning stroke. The secret ingredient is of course, tassels! Add in hair accessories like headbands and bandanas for a free-spirited yet put-together appeal.

You’re all caught up! Now, go ahead and seize the day with your stellar style game.
