Nancy Tyagi Takes Over Cannes

This year’s Cannes red carpet saw a diverse representation of Indian talent, with a mix of Bollywood stars and emerging digital creators leaving their mark on the global stage. Among the mix, a Delhi-based creator’s debut truly stood out: Nancy Tyagi. Famously known for her Instagram chronicles of recreating iconic looks worn by celebrities both on and off screen, the fashion creator showcases her creative journey from sourcing the fabrics to crafting ensembles from scratch on her page.

Hailing from a small village in Uttar Pradesh, the 23-year-old fashion designer and digital creator showcased some of her finest works of art at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. For her looks on the prestigious red carpet, Tyagi designed four garments over the course of two months. Read on to take a look at her handcrafted ensembles that not only took the internet by storm but also gained her compliments from the likes of B-town’s fashion icon Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and other stars.

Dialing Up the Drama

For her show-stopping debut, the self-taught fashion designer crafted a voluminous pink gown. Weighing over 20kgs, the barbiecore-coded gown took over 30 days and a staggering 1000 meters of fabric to craft. Chic gloves and delicate diamond jewellery complemented the look, elevating the gown to Disney princess status.

The Saree Story

For her second look, Nancy decided to bring the cultural charm of the saree to the global stage. Featuring intricate hand embroidery, the lavender masterpiece exemplified a modern take on the cherished silhouette. Teamed with a full-sleeve and backless blouse, the drape’s matching veil and flowing train imbued the look with a dash of old-world glamour.

Goth Glam

Bringing the timeless allure of black on the red carpet, Nancy channelled old Hollywood glamour for her third look. Assembled and crafted by her, the all-black look comprised a corset, a long-tailed skirt and a luxurious feathered boa. The designer paired a black crystal-encrusted handbag that matched her ensemble and hair accessory, tying the look together.

Sustainable Chic

A playground for all things fashion and films, the 77th Cannes red carpet witnessed an amalgamation of sustainability and fashion, thanks to Tyagi. Her final look, crafted from 100% organic cotton, was a chic, three-piece ensemble. The bralette, skirt and blazer boasted nature-inspired prints in shades of blue. To add to the allure, she punctuated her look with eye-catching jewels from CaratLane, featuring delicate butterfly motifs and pearls.

Nancy Tyagi’s noteworthy debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival not only highlighted her impeccable design skills but also underscored the power of diverse representation on a global stage. As she continues to carve her niche in the digital fashion space, her inspiring journey from a small village in India to Cannes serves as an inspiration for those who dare to dream.
