Mishru Looks Back to Move Forward with ECHOES

What happens when a fashion house looks back at the signatures that built its identity, not to recreate them, but to see where they can go next? For Mishru, the answer is ECHOES, its new fusion festive collection that revisits familiar codes through a contemporary lens.

Following Reframed, which explored how bridalwear could live beyond the wedding day, ECHOES carries that conversation into the festive season. Founder and creative director Swapna Anumolu looks to the house’s repertoire of intricate embroidery, florals, textural surfaces and sculptural construction, but rather than simply bringing them back, she gives them room to evolve. “ECHOES is about evolution rather than nostalgia,” says Swapna.

That comes through in the details. Familiar floral motifs return in new compositions, while intricate surface work finds its way onto contemporary prêt and fusion silhouettes. Nothing feels like a straightforward throwback.  Rather than simply bringing back its signature elements, Mishru shifts their context and lets them take on a different character. “The collection came from this idea of revisiting what feels familiar, not to recreate it, but to see it differently,” Swapna explains.

That shift is especially evident in the changing relationship people have with occasionwear. The idea of a festive outfit being reserved for a single celebration is gradually giving way to something more fluid: pieces that can move between occasions, be styled differently and remain relevant beyond one day in the calendar.

Women today are looking at occasionwear as part of a larger wardrobe rather than something reserved for a single event,” says Swapna. That shift has made versatility an important part of the collection, which moves between prêt and fusion without losing the richness associated with festive dressing.

For Mishru, ease does not mean doing away with detail. “For us, lightness does not necessarily mean taking away detail. It is more about how the detail is placed, composed and experienced on the garment,” Swapna says. Embroidery, texture and construction remain central, but are balanced by silhouettes that feel easier to wear and style. 

That freedom extends to the way Indian occasionwear is being put together today. Traditional forms sit alongside contemporary separates, while the wearer mixes elements to create looks that feel personal rather than what’s trending. “Women are increasingly confident in combining different elements and creating looks that reflect their own personalities,” Swapna says.  

In ECHOES, Mishru finds a way to honour its visual vocabulary without being defined by it. Familiar details become the starting point rather than the destination, opening up a wardrobe that feels rich without feeling restrictive. The result is festive dressing with room to move, restyle and, ultimately, make your own.
