Worlds of Wonder: Ambika Gupta, The A-Cube Project

Every wedding is a world of its own, and Ambika Gupta makes sure to build a different reality for each of her projects. Be it an intimate affair, a royal destination to tie the knot or a traditional Big Fat Indian wedding, the event designer knows how to engineer spaces that are truest to the couple.

The A-Cube Project, founded by Gupta in 2012, curates spatial designs, driven by creativity and a penchant for observation. “When I meet a couple, I’m interested in the things that don’t necessarily fit neatly together. Perhaps one person is extremely traditional and the other is very contemporary. They may want something intimate but also theatrical; they may come from very different cultures, or have travelled the world but feel deeply connected to home. Those contradictions are often where the most original design language emerges,” she shares.

Having been in the wedding design landscape for over a decade, Gupta foresees spatial experiences to be at the forefront of such events. She says, “Technology will obviously become part of this – projection, kinetic installations, intelligent lighting, immersive content, AI. But I hope technology becomes increasingly invisible.” Gupta also adds, “I don’t want guests walking into a wedding and saying, ‘Look at the technology.’ I want them to walk in and wonder, ‘How did they make me experience this?’”

Ambika Gupta’s design philosophy looks beyond the spectacle of an occasion to uncover the intimate details that make it deeply personal. Guided by an eye for detail, use of 3D design technology and a unique creative sensibility, Gupta continues to craft spaces that transcend visual grandeur. Her environments are conceived not merely to be seen, but to be experienced, inhabited and felt.

“You need moments of spectacle, but you also need moments of restraint. If everything screams, eventually nothing feels special.”
