Since debuting her eponymous label in 2014, Ridhima Bhasin has established a unique presence captivating fashion enthusiasts with her exquisite creations. In an exclusive interview with First Look, Ridhima Bhasin delves into her design journey, the inspirations fueling her work, the philosophy underpinning her brand, and some great advice on curating a perfect festive wardrobe!

FL: Ridhima Bhasin has carved a niche in the Indian fusion wear market since 2014. Tell us where the journey began.

RB: My journey into the realm of Indian fusion wear began with a deep-seated familial inspiration. With my mother and sister already immersed in the same artistic domain, I found myself drawn to the design world from an early age. My family’s legacy and my passion for women’s wear is how I started a journey that would carve a distinctive niche in the industry, blending tradition with contemporary flair.

FL: What is your design philosophy?

RB: My design philosophy revolves around a deep reverence for my roots, coupled with an unyielding passion for innovation. Infusing Indian textiles with my distinctive prints and intricate mirror embellishments, I strive to create pieces that are not only timeless but also imbued with a sense of playful experimentation. It’s this delicate balance between tradition and reinvention that defines my signature style and sets my creations apart in the world of fashion.

FL: Your designs often fuse traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes. What draws you to this fusion, and how do you ensure its relevance in today’s fashion landscape?

RB: The fusion is like a vibrant dance between the past and the present, each step revealing a new dimension of beauty and creativity. The endless potential for reinvention and storytelling draws me to this captivating juxtaposition. By intertwining age-old techniques with modern sensibilities, we create pieces that resonate with the dynamic spirit of today’s fashion landscape. To ensure this fusion remains fresh and relevant, we approach each design with a spirit of curiosity and innovation.

FL: Ridhima Bhasin is known for its intricate, exquisite embellishments. What inspires these intricate elements, and how do you balance opulence with wearability?

RB: My inspiration stems from a multitude of sources—from India’s rich cultural heritage to the beauty found in nature’s delicate patterns. By meticulously selecting high-quality materials and paying careful attention to fit and construction, I ensure that even the most opulent embellishments remain wearable and functional. It’s about striking that perfect harmony between extravagance and practicality, no matter the occasion.

FL: When building a capsule wardrobe for the festive season, what are the essentials one must invest in?

RB: When creating a capsule wardrobe for the festive season, invest in versatile essentials like a classic saree or kurta set, statement jewellery pieces, a tailored jacket or embellished cape, comfortable yet stylish footwear, and a clutch or handbag that complements your outfits. These pieces can be mixed and matched to create multiple stunning looks for various celebrations, ensuring you’re always dressed to impress while staying true to your style.

FL: How would you describe a signature RB look?

RB: Picture intricate floral motifs weaving seamlessly with modern silhouettes, creating a timeless aesthetic. It’s about striking that perfect balance between boldness and femininity, embodying the spirit of a confident, modern woman.

FL: Could you tell us more about your latest collection?

RB: “Wild FLORALS” embodies a fusion of organic sophistication and contemporary allure. Inspired by nature’s untamed elegance, this collection is an ode to nature’s timeless beauty, presented through a new perspective on our world.

As we conclude our captivating chat with Ridhima, it’s palpable that her journey is a harmony of tradition and innovation.
