Lakme Fashion Week: Throwback Moments & What To Expect From Winter/Festive ’19

The stage is being set to kick-off the most-awaited fashion spectacle of the year. Ushering into the new season, Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive ’19 show is ready to roll out the trends that will define your wardrobe for the days to come. As the prestigious runway celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, we reminiscence some throwback-worthy moments from the last Spring/Summer ’19 show that highlighted the multi-dimensional aspects of the fashion platform.

Theatrical Opening

Gaurav Gupta with Tabu and Karan Johar

Gaurav Gupta, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of his label, curtain-raised the Spring/Summer ’19 show at the grand auditorium of The Royal Opera House. Models walking down the curvy staircase amongst the yards of white drapes adorning his creations created a dream-like cinematic statement that had the spectators swooning. Named ‘The (Un)Folding’, the collection featured exaggerated ruffes and drapes clubbed with Gupta’s signature structural tailoring, Karan Johar and Tabu closed the show for the designer in his ultra-glamorous pieces.

Spotted Season’s It Sarees

The contemporary reinterpretation of classics are always the most awaited styles on the runway every season. Apart from a myriad of cocktail sarees, artfully customized contemporary sari hybrids made it big at The Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort’19. Top hats like Shivan Narresh , Shantanu & Nikhil , Punit Balana , Payal Singhal revamped the six-yard drapes with belts, ruffles, fringes and intriguing elements for a dash high octane drama.

The Concert Collaboration

Though movies and fashion exist parallelly, very rarely do we see an entire runway collection inspired by a particular film. Another highlight from S/R’19 final day; Gully Boy rappers and star cast including Ranveer Singh, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Naezy took over the runway to perform as they presented the exclusive collaboration- Love Gen X Gully Boy. The Love Gen label spearheaded by the designer trio Dolly Sidhwani, Bhavana Pandey and Nandita Mahtani created offbeat street-style casuals with movie slogans as a part its merchandise.

What to expect from Winter/Festive ’19?

In a nutshell, the last season saw vivid new concepts and trends on the runway. As we await the Winter/Festive ’19 show to be hosted at St.Regis, Mumbai in the week ahead, here’s what we’re eagerly looking forward. With Lakme Fashion Week also completing twenty glorious years this season, there are many special things being staged for the spectators.

The Fabric of Freedom & Future

As an ode to 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi, the show is Lakme Fashion Week- Winter/Festive ’19 is set to bring India’s textile heritage- Khadi back to the centre stage. Spearheading the #WearYourKhadiOnTheRamp campaign, designers Gaurav Khanijo, Anuj Bhutani, Pallavi Dhyani will be showcasing distinct styles customized in handspun khadi fabrics on Day 2, that is, the Sustainable Fashion Day. Watch out to get your dose of ‘comfy meets chic’ from these ranges.

The Starry Grand Finale

Gauri and Nainika will be closing the season with a Grand Finale show at the iconic venue of Richardson & Cruddas in Mumbai. The designer duo will also be unveiling a signature make-up line in association with Lakme India along with muse Kareena Kapoor on the eve of August 25th. The designers revealed that the collection is inspired by the free and light styles that defined power dressing in the golden era of the 80s. If your social calendar is full with party RSVPs, make sure to check out the collection!

The five-day extravaganza will be action-packed with artistry, glamour and fashion and our eyes are glued on the runways to turn over a new sartorial leaf.
