Here’s How Heeramandi Stole the Show

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s periodic drama, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, which has taken the OTT by storm, has stirred a discussion amongst fans around the world for various compelling reasons. The creative mastermind transported the audience to the 1940s pre-independence Lahore with its meticulously crafted sets, magnificent dialogues, fabulous cinematography, soulful music, and showcasing the cultural aspects of the bygone eras. Every frame of the web series highlighted its impeccable attention to detail and the hard work and dedication that was put in by the whole crew. At the same time, there is much to talk about the engaging screenplay, the stellar cast, and the story that unfolds love, betrayal, rebellion and revenge throughout the eight episodes, but one element of the show that truly brought the majestic series to life — its costumes and jewellery.

Around of applause to the celebrated designer duo Rimple and Harpreet, who created Heeramandi’s lavish outfits that perfectly amalgamate with the storyline, exuding opulence. They ensured that the viewers were transported to a time when courtesans firmly held control over the Walled City and the influential aristocrats. Expressing their profound love for ancient crafts and rare vintage textiles, the designer duo has showcased their sartorial excellence in every frame of the iconic web series. While they collaborated with Mr. Bhansali on his previous successful projects, this 2024 debut web series by the cinematic maestro stood out from the rest as the silhouettes elevated the entire show, highlighting a distinctive flair to every character.

While Rimple and Harpreet showcased their expertise in costumes, Shri Paramani Jewels ensured they added the exquisite finishing touches to the entire series with their time-honoured ornaments. The experts behind the jewellery brand, Vinay and Anshu Gupta, ensured that their craftsmanship screams grandiose and splendour as they created 10,000 regal masterpieces for the magnum opus show. The intricately crafted jewels reflected the epitome of the royal Mughal era and perfectly complemented the alluring courtesans of the show. Every look in the series deserved every ounce of attention. However, we have selected a few favourites that have captured everyone’s attention.

Aditi Rao Hydari’s Red and Gold Lehenga

Heeramandi

Let’s begin with the gracious Bibbojaan (played by Aditi Rao Hydari) imprinting entry with the mesmerising brocade lehenga with intricate embroidery. The royal red and gold ensemble highlights the bygone era aesthetics, and the silhouette is brought to life by exceptional craftsmanship. The resplendent pieces perfectly enhance the actress’s dance moves and elegance. Paired with a sheer net dupatta and a stunning black velvet blouse with meticulous artistry around the sleeves’ ends, the outfit adds a timeless charm to the entire outfit. The culturally rooted kundan polki maang tikka and allure bold nose ring with a mix of gold and colour bangles complete Bibbojaan’s look seamlessly.

Fareedan and Mallikajaan’s Photo Shoot Sarees

Heeramandi

There is no Heeramandi without Fareedan and Mallikajaan’s rivalry. The epic saga’s main characters, Sonakshi Sinha and Manisha Koirala, wardrobe is an incredible blend of old and new. Mallikajaan’s age-old conservative approach with pastel hues and Sonakshi introducing change in Heeramandi’s tradition reflecting sequins work are excellently featured in this scene. Sarees are iconic creations that have always stood the test of time in different centuries, and these divas show the audience how to carry them with panache. With an amalgamation of dainty and heavy jewellery, the actresses have set a benchmark for power dressing with classic masterpieces.

The Sakal Ban Looks

Heermandi

Welcoming the blooming season of springs in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s style has to be on a grand note, and the melodious song “Sakal Ban” exemplifies that. The distinctive yet striking part of the whole sequence is an array of outfits in different shades of mustard yellow. The song highlights the beauty of mustard flowers, and that’s the moment when the entire song makes sense to everyone, especially in these elegant costumes and regal-steeped ornaments. Every woman in the song, from background dancers to leading ladies, is wearing mustard with a hint of different colours, showcasing the character’s uniqueness.

The blood-red, embellished Anarkali worn by the actress for the last performances as a tawaif was a splendid showcase of regal elegance amplified by age-old craftsmanship. When everyone was in awe of Bibbojaan’s moves, they couldn’t deny the captivating charm of the royal silhouette, bedecked with antique gold jewellery, which was an accurate display of the vintage era at its peak.

Wali Mohommad’s Regal Charm

Heeramandi

We spoke about the incredible ladies; let’s put some light on the men of the show, who were equally displaying their fashion prowess. From the villainous Nawab Zulfikar to the heart-throb Tajdar Baloch, all the men were dressed up to the mark, keeping their back story in mind. However, Fardeen Khan as Wali Mohommad stole the show when it came to the clothing. The silk sherwani is sported by the Nawab, is embroidered with classic zardozi and completed with a silk shawl, which sums up the entire royal Nawabi aesthetics a notch higher. With eye-catching fingerrings encrusted with precious stones and layered pearl necklaces, here’s a whole showcase of the times when the Nawabs lived an absolute life of luxury.
