First Look Tastemakers ft Jemimah Rodriguesi: The New Pulse of Indian Cricket

A power player, a prodigy – with her exceptional grit on the field and an equally radiant personality off the field, Jemimah has captured the hearts and minds of many. The cricketer who historically helped India reach the finals in 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, refuses to take a break. Whether it is captaining Delhi Capitals or unwinding with music, Jemimah has changed how young girls aspiring to play cricket perceive the sport today.

FL: Growing up in India, what did ambition look like for a girl who wanted to play cricket professionally?

JR: For me, ambition wasn’t about fame; it was about proving that a girl with a bat in her hand belonged on every ground, whether it was gully cricket in Mumbai or an international stadium. I knew early on that dreams don’t discriminate; hard work does.

FL: In high-stakes tournaments, what is the internal dialogue you have with yourself before stepping onto the field?

JR: I remind myself that pressure is a privilege. When I step out, I’m not just playing for runs; I’m playing for every moment I’ve prepared for, and that steadies my mind.

FL: At this stage in your career, what beliefs about fitness, the body, or performance are you actively unlearning or re-examining?

JR: I’ve learnt that listening to my body is part of fitness. There were days when I pushed through pain or discomfort; now I understand that rest is strategic, not a compromise.

FL: What does success look like to you now, versus five years ago?

JR: Five years ago, success was about performance and milestones. Today, it’s about balance; playing well, staying healthy, and showing up with integrity and joy in every arena.

FL: What does mental resilience mean to you, and how do you practise it when the nation is watching?

JR: Mental resilience isn’t about being emotionless; it’s about acknowledging pressure, talking about it openly, and leaning on the people who support you. That’s how I’ve learned to stay grounded.

FL: Years from now, how would you like your story to be told – as an athlete, a disruptor, or something else entirely?

JR: I hope it’s told as someone who played with heart and inspired others to be fearless – whether that’s on the field, off it, or in how they define their own journeys.

FL: Who is Jemimah off the field?

JR: Off the field, I’m someone who loves music, family time, and honest conversations about life. Cricket is a part of me, but it doesn’t define all of me.

The Tastemaker Code

A ritual you’re obsessed with right now

Journalling my thoughts before big games, unplugging from social media to reset, and playing guitar to bring joy into the dressing room.

Tradition you keep returning to

Staying rooted in faith and gratitude; it keeps me centred through triumphs and tough moments alike.

A quiet influence people wouldn’t expect

My toughest competition is my own mindset.

Currently reading/listening to

I love switching off with my guitar, good books and music.

One decision that changed everything

Choosing to talk openly about mental health; that transformed not just my game, but also my purpose off the field.

Is Blue Having Its Devil Wears Prada Moment Again?
Disha Parwarkar

May 26, 2026

“There’s no such thing as an ordinary blue sweater.” Years later, it still feels like Miranda Priestly understood fashion’s obsession with blue long before the rest of us did. I remember watching The Devil Wears Prada for the first time and barely noticing Andy’s sweater. To me, it was just blue. Nothing revolutionary or memorable. Read More
