Beyond the bridal norm

When it comes to an Indian wedding and the celebrations revolving around it, the things that first pop into our minds include the colour red, lehengas, and hefty adornments. But the brides of this generation are here to ditch ’em all – except elegance!

It’s no secret that the bridal wardrobe selection process is stressful. But, a fascinating aspect today is that women are experimenting with eccentric pieces for the big day and defying stereotypes while doing so!

For millennial brides, an unconventional bridal look is a breath of fresh air that allows them to be themselves, completely. From opting for a non-traditional attire to dropping the lehenga for their big day entirely; today’s brides aren’t afraid of making a statement and moving away from the norm!

Let’s take a look at the ones who chose to lead the way with their out-of-the-box yet gorgeous ensembles!

The Indian-Australian celebrity made headlines due to her custom-made outfit that combined the traditional red with a western gown. The gorgeous fusion creation had a long trail paired with a red veil to match. Departing from the traditional lehenga, or in this case, a white gown too; the actor opted for this amalgamated look. To bring this mermaid-style beauty to life, she chose the label JADE by Monica and Karishma.

Known for her edgy taste in fashion and witty sense of humour, this Kapoor bride went for an exquisite look. Exuding timeless elegance, Rhea Kapoor wore a regal chanderi saree created by her close friend and designer, Anamika Khanna. She also made a statement by draping a pearl-encrusted veil designed by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas paired with Sunita Kapoor’s pearl and Kundan jewellery. She opted for an intimate wedding with only close family by her side at her father’s house in Mumbai.

Kritika Khurana, who goes by the handle @thatbohogirl on Instagram, donned this Abhinav Mishra ensemble for her engagement ceremony. The lehenga had a risque blouse and was embellished with elaborate mirror work. She accessorised the fit with a chunky choker and matching sparkling earrings. Her beau, Aditya Chhabra, sported a similar creation by the same designer. On Instagram, the creator shared that she wanted to wear her favourite colour – white – but was hesitant. We’re delighted she took the unconventional route and made a statement with her decision!

Matching the blush on her cheeks, the pink lehenga that Neha Dhupia wore was a minimalistic dream! The pastel number culminated in intricate embroidery work from Rajasthan like Gota Patti, Zori, Zardozi, Sequins, Pearls, and Dori. The outfit was paired with a dazzling choker known as a Gulband necklace that had emerald beads dangling with a matching pair of maang-tika and jhumkas. The actress surprised everyone with her secret wedding ceremony and out-of-the-ordinary ensemble!

If you plan on saying “I do” like the beautiful brides mentioned above, we’ve listed a few looks that could help you twist the tradition – your way!
