Arpita Mehta Makes Her Couture Debut at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026

One for the bride gang! Arpita Mehta unveiled her debut couture collection, Ceremonial, at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026, presented in association with Nexxus New York as part of the FDCI showcase. Marking her first-ever couture runway, the collection reimagined Indian ceremonial dressing through a contemporary lens, weaving together heritage textiles, intricate craftsmanship, and immersive storytelling into a celebration of modern occasion wear.

With Ceremonial, she embraced her signature craftsmanship – mirror work, vibrant palette and contemporary silhouettes – and reimagined how India dresses up for ceremonies. The collection reflected the belief that ceremonies are no longer defined solely by convention; they are deeply personal, expressive and constantly changing, just like the women celebrating them.

Celebrating India’s rich textile heritage through Bandhani, Banarasi weaves, and tissue silks, Ceremonial also marked the debut of kantha in Arpita Mehta’s design vocabulary. Her signature mirror work was elevated with vintage-inspired gemstone embroidery, creating richly layered surfaces that seamlessly balanced time-honoured craftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility.

The collection unfolded through sculpted lehengas, fluid saris, contemporary drapes, occasion separates, and Arpita Mehta’s signature corseted blouses, each reimagined with a couture sensibility. A palette of coconut, rose tan, sage, seafoam, and teal gradually transitioned into rich violet and sindoor red, while intricate embroidery and refined surface embellishments lent every look a sense of timeless elegance.

Among the collection’s standout details were the striking chainmail headpieces, embellished with mirrors and pearls, which blurred the line between accessory and adornment. Functioning as jewellery in their own right, they completed each look with a sense of drama.

Mehta didn’t stage this as a conventional show. In collaboration with creative show director Pranav Goswamy, Arpita Mehta transformed the venue into an intimate members-only lounge inspired by the Indo-European interiors of the 1970s and ’80s. Brass accents, suede and velvet furnishings, fringe lamps, and handwoven Jaipur Rugs created a setting that felt nostalgic yet sophisticated.

With Ceremonial, Arpita Mehta’s couture debut was less about introducing a new aesthetic and more about evolving one she has long made her own. It was a confident first step into couture, and one that signals an exciting new chapter for the designer.
